Liam Neeson Movie Shows Perils of Diamond Mining in Canada’s North
The diamond industry will receive a publicity boost worldwide with a new Netflix movie showing popular actor Liam Neeson rescuing diamond workers trapped after a mine collapses in northern Canada.
The Irish actor stars in The Ice Road, which Netflix will screen in the US after paying a record $18 million for the rights to make the movie.
Leeson plays an ice road driver leading a rescue mission across frozen waters. Among the threats he has to deal with are thawing waters and other dilemmas.
The film will give viewers a view into the environment in which several Candian diamond mines are located, in remote locations where trucks delivering fuel, food and other materials can only make the journey in the heart of winter when the ice is thick enough to drive on. At other times of the year, workers and goods must be flown in.
