More Positive News As Indian Polished Exports Rise
There’s further good news for the diamond industry with India reporting a 27% jump in polished diamond exports in February.
The news shows a growing momentum in the market after the 9% increase in January reported by India’s Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council.
India is the world’s major diamond manufacturer, polishing more than 90% of the world’s rough stones by volume.
Its polished diamond export figures are seen as critical in indicating the health of the global diamond trade.
Polished exports were $1.75 billion while polished imports were at $220 million.
It should be remembered that the comparison relates to February 2020 when the world was starting to close down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
IGL – International Gemological Laboratories – has identified a rise in diamond grading demand with more clients bringing stones to receive its world-leading certificates. Our reports bring peace of mind because clients know exactly what the characteristics of the diamonds are that they have bought or are being offered.
